Love Shines is a social initiative calling for improved support and care for children and adolescents suffering with Down's syndrome. Through combined efforts, the philanthropic project aims to empower underprivileged children to build confidence, find passion, and tap into their potential, so that they can lead better, happier lives.
Vision & Mission
Vision
All children can be a diamond in the rough. Believing so, we empower and enable individuals with Down’s syndrome to live to their fullest potential.
The project started in 2007 by helping children and adolescents in the Xinhua Community in Shanghai. As the team gained more understanding and hands-on experience by interacting with these first young individuals, we realized we could do more to help them better engage with their own lives and with society.
Mission
We aim to enhance education, wellbeing and positive mental health for children and adolescents suffering Down’s syndrome from three age groups: 7–16 years, 16–18 years, and over-18 years of age. We offer support activities that improve physical and mental wellbeing to all, and vocational skills to older young individuals in particular.
Impact
With an attitude of informed optimism, over the past many years, the initiative has supported numerous underprivileged boys and girls, helping them and their families see brighter possibilities for their future.
Overall, the project has offered resources and networking that helps communities become better aware of, care for and serve people with Down’s syndrome.
